Interesting Facts About Pillows


Some people usually have two or three pillows on their bed. Today, pillows are stuffed primarily with materials such as polyester (a synthetic), feathers, down, or a combination of the latter two. The least expensive pillows to manufacture are polyester, although they are the most durable, easily washed, and cause few allergic reactions.
The most expensive is the pillow filled with goose down. Feathers are a moderately priced stuffing. Some higher-end pillows may be filled with a combination of goose feathers and down, and that ratio may be varied extensively according to price point (the more down, the more expensive).

Here are some eye opening facts about Pillows;

* The wealthier Greeks rested their heads and feet upon richly embroidered cushions and bolsters. The Egyptians, regarding the head as the seat of life, lavished much attention, detail, and money on pillows for the dead. The Chinese, however, thought that soft pillows robbed the body of vitality, and their pillows were made of wood, leather, and ceramic materials. Some were even filled with herbal remedies to cure disease, turn white hair black, restore lost teeth, and inspire sweet dreams.

* A Korean man named Lee Jin-gyu fell in love with a life-sized Japanese body pillow called a "dakimakura". The pillow has the image of a cartoon character named Fate Testarossa on it, from an anime called Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha.

The 28-year-old man takes his pillow with him everywhere and eventually got married to it.



* The first pillow was best described by Confucius five centuries before the birth of Christ: "With coarse rice to eat, with water to drink, and my bended arm for a pillow--I have still joy in the midst of these things."

* One theory has it that makura ("pillow" in Japanese) is derived from tamakura, which means resting your head on your hands.

* Early Hollywood filmmakers used pillow fights on screen to stir emotions. The amount of feathers pounded from the casings depicted the degree of conflict.

* The average comfort lifetime of feather pillows is 8 to 10 years, down pillows 5 to 10 years and polyester 6 months to 2 years. if your pillow is up to 20 it is old and has expired. give it a befitting funeral.

* Pillows are objects that allow the head and neck, or limbs to rest or be kept elevated, although they are sometimes used for decorative purposes, but they are typically used on a bed.

* Modern pillows are generally made of a fabric case with an internal stuffing of feathers, latex, foam, or synthetic or natural fibres, although inflatable ones are available and they are filled with air.
‘Pillows’ are also known as ‘cushions’, although this term is more often used for similar items that are positioned on seats.

* Although stereotypically softer today, pillows of the past where often hard, made of wood or stone among other materials.

* Pillows are generally rectangular in shape, although they are often circular or square; while others fit around the neck, and they come in a variety of colours and patterns.

* In 7000 BC in Ancient Mesopotamia, pillows, said to be made of stone, were used by the wealthy, and a greater quantity of the items in one’s possession, generally signified a person of greater rank.

* A pillow is commonly covered with a fabric case that is easily removable for the purpose of washing, while some people also use a protector under the case to help prevent stains on the item.

In early times, a common reason for the use of pillows was to lessen or prevent insects disturbing or entering the body via the head while sleeping.



What are the disadvantages of sleeping with a pillow?
The disadvantages:

* It causes wrinkles on face.
People who do not use pillows will have a low chance of getting wrinkles on the face. The reason is, those who do not use a pillow do not faceprint on the pillow as that can cause wrinkles on the face.

* It could cause neck pain
Sleeping using a pillow could become the main source of shoulder and neck pain. Although it is still advisable to warm up (stretching) and using the heater, the best method to relieve this pain is by sleeping without a pillow. However, sleeping without a pillow can cause problems for people who are already accustomed to using it. For these people, it is recommended to gradually reduce the thickness of the pillow.

* Disadvantageous to the backbone
Sleeping without a pillow is considered the most healthy method because it provides benefits to the spine. Sleeping with the back to allow the backbone to fully rest with the natural curve of the body in place. When we sleep with a thick pillow, the backbone location will change and you may experience back pain the next morning. So, sleeping without a pillow is the best medicine for back pain.

* Decreases Quality sleep
If you want to get a quality sleep then you are advised to get rid of your pillow because it can hinder your sleep. Sleeping without a pillow will make good quality sleep because your body position is at a normal level.
