All over the world, there are more than 7.2 million types of food, of which the world’s most popular food is found in the Italian cuisine. It is liked by 84 percent of people all around the world.
However, how would you feel if told there are some certain kind of regular foods that you eat every day but are super deadly to your body system and health?
Let's find out what foods and if you'll be able to stay away from them, since the ultimate goal is to live long and live healthy.
According to research, foods such as;
* Margarine
Margarine has a high percentage of trans-fat, which are often related to heart diseases. The trans-fats present in margarine lowers the quality of milk you’re giving to your newborn, in addition to increasing your insulin levels which increase with even a small amount of this product.
* Soda
Carbonated water, flavoring, drinks and sweeteners are the top 3 ingredients of popular brands all over the world, without having to mention names. Of course they are sweet to the tongue and throat when served chill. However, there are numerous other additives that transform soda from a saintly, satisfactory liquid to one of the deadliest “foods”.
This is because, it is impossible for our brains to be satiated with sugary soda drinks, so we keep on piling up empty calories to our daily total intakes without any positive effect for our health. Whereas, the high-amount of unneeded sugars get converted by your liver into glucose, and then your body stores it as fat...as we all know, fat is not good for the body, it clogs arteries and other passages making it difficult for blood and other fluids to flow properly.
* Energy drinks
Most, if not all energy drinks contain caffeine, taurine, guarana, vitamin B and glucuronolactone in quantities that may not be safe in multiple-drink quantities. The combination of these additives is harmful if taken in high-doses. It's just like getting high on drugs which eventually messes up your system. The effects are similar to the intake of illegal drugs, smoking and alcohol consumption.
* Fruit Juices
This is very weird but seems true. Doctors and dieticians usually emphasize on daily intake of fruits, and most times we clamour for fruit juices rather than original fruits themselves.
Even when labelled as 100% fruit origin, fruit juices aren’t as healthy as advertising lets you think. After squeezing the fruit, food and beverage manufacturers usually store the juice in massive oxygen-depleted holding tanks for up to a year before they package it. This process leaves the juice almost flavor-free. To make up for that, sweeteners or other forms flavours are added in a second step and those might just be detrimental to your health.
So why not go for real fruits and blend yourself??
* White bread
White bread is poorer in fiber and protein than other bread alternatives. Fiber helps our body guage when it has had its fill. Moreover, an insulin spike risk may occur when we consume white bread in unbridled excess. An excess of insulin in the system is countered by the body by releasing hormones which shouldn’t be continuously active in a healthy person.
* Raw honey
Most often that not, honey, though sweet, does not go through a normal pasteurization process as others do to kill harmful toxins existing within its matter. As a result, this “ready-to-eat” product often contains grayanotoxin, which can cause dizziness, weakness, excessive sweating and nausea for the next 24-hours. Why do you think it is highly UNRECOMMENDED for new born babies, toddlers and even adolescents in some cases??
* Tuna fish
You relish the test of tuna fish, right?
However, the challenge of consuming tuna fish is mostly associated with how polluted the ocean bed is with contaminants considered as harmful to the body.
Tuna absorbs large amounts of mercury which, once processed by our body, passes through kidneys or travels to the brain and other soft tissues, which could damage those vital organs.
* Processed meat
Processed meats are a variety of foods, such as canned beef, assorted and spiced meat, hot dogs, bacon, sausages, ham or salami, corned beef, smoked meats, beef jerky and all those meats that have been processed by salting, curing, canning, drying or smoking.
They usually contribute to high-blood pressure and other even more severe health issues. The negative consequences of their consumption derive from the high temperatures used to process these meats which then form nitrosamines which are carcinogenic in nature.
* Breakfast cereals
Breakfast cereals are one of the favorite foods for our first meal of the day, because they’re easy to prepare and simply delicious.
Sadly, these products are loaded with genetically modified organisms which affect our immune system. They need to taste good and appear appealing, but yeah, not all that glitters is gold, and so you might need to find and try out organic breakfast cereals as alternatives, though it might be a bit expensive...but then, isn't health wealth in itself??
* Cheese
No doubt cheese is a valuable source of calcium which strengthens our bones. Protein, phosphorus, riboflavin, zinc and some other vitamins (i.e., vitamin A, B12) can be found in calcium, but it's nice we also know that though it might posses some highly commendable nutrition factors, it also engenders health risks if combined with wrong food partners. So do a research on your own on the kindah consumables cheese can go with before downing it.
* Fat-free Foods
We cannot stress this enough, that fat foods are dangerous to the body's metabols and overall wellbeing.
What is even related to as fat free foods may not be fat-free at all though they look like attractive and convincing for a balanced and satisfying diet.
In reality, fats are essential for many body functions and for its healthy development and a fat-cut is not advisable, particularly when your workouts are regular. However, the joker is, fat-free foods are usually high in processed sugar, so what you think is fat or calorie-free might just be loaded with same just to deceive you and make you part with your hard-earned money.
* French fries
French fries are usually deep-fried in hydrogenated vegetable oils, that are often reheated causing damages to their polyunsaturated fats. Oils used to deep-fry are unequivocally damaging to our health, because they are overly rich in trans-fat. You crave for french fries? Make it homemade instead using fat-free oil.
* Canned foods
Canned foods are always a quick fix when we run out of time to cook. What we should know is that, canning is a process that allows us to preserve foods for a longer period of time - 1 to 5 years, and sometimes even more, in order to preserve certain nutrients. Within this period, the some other nutrients such as water-soluble vitamins can be damaged by the high-heat, chemicals and the large amount of salt and sugar used in canning the foods, making it harmful for consumption.
* Stock Cube
Processed stock cubes contain both artificial ingredients and high-levels of salt. People affected by diabetes are more exposed to high-blood pressure when they eat foods prepared with stock cubes. This makes them more vulnerable to heart and kidney disease. Homemade stocks are quick and easy to do, and they will enrich your recipes with a definite tastier flavour.
* SALT
Foods are mostly tasteless without salt. However a diet high in salt can cause raised blood pressure that increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
At this point it is important we monitor and possibly reduce our salt intake.
Ultimately, our taste buds will get used to less salty but healthier meals.
Don't be exasperated that these regular sources of fiber, energy, nutrients and minerals are detrimental to the human health. The key words are; moderation and homemade.
Draw a timetable for adequate and balanced proportion of foods, while you also ensure you make most of these consumables by yourself, if you can. YouTube videos and google are there for you to learn loads of DO-IT-YOURSELF.
Eat what you love, howbeit moderately, exercise and try to stay healthy.
