Super Falcons defeat Slovakia 4-3

The Super Falcons of Nigeria today defeated Slovakia 4-3 in their second match of 2019 Invitational Women Tournament in Cyprus.The coach Thomas Dennerby tutored side survived the biggest scare at the ongoing tournament as they defeated hard fighting Slovakian side that staged a remarkable comeback in the second half.

The African champions had raced to a 3 goal lead in the first half of the match with goals from Rita Chikwelu who found the back of the net in the 7th and 38th minute with defender Osinachi Ohale scoring in between.

The Slovakian ladies returned for the second stanza as the better side as Jana Vojtekovic reduced the tally in the 67th minute.

Lucia Harsanyova scored two penalties kicks in the 73rd and 78th minutes to level the game and increased the pace of the keenly contested game.

Forward Ana Imo restored Nigerians lead in the 82nd minutes off an assist from Asisat Oshoala. Imo's goal proved to be the winner as Super Falcons bounced back from losing 1-4 to Austria in opening group game.

The Nigeria team will play their last group game against Belgium on Monday.
