Antrum (also known as Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made) is a purportedly cursed 2018 American mocumentary horror film written and directed by David Amito and Michael Laicini. The film is divided into two parts: an opening and closing frame narrative in the form of a mockumentary and a feature film.
Before or if ever you decide to watch, check out some teffying facts about it first.
This is not for promotion, this is for you to exercise caution as you download and access movies from various platforms.
* The documentary purports to tell the story of Antrum, a movie released in the late 70s that supposedly has deleterious effects on those who watch it.
* Antrum made its world premiere at the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival on October 14, 2018, and was screened at other film festivals, where it was nominated for several awards.
* This movie was shot in English but of apparently Soviet origin is submitted for inclusion in a variety of film festivals; none accepted it. Shortly after each rejection, the various festival directors were left traumatized under suspicious circumstances.
* It received positive reviews from critics who praised its atmosphere, acting, and creativity, while some criticized its pacing, runtime, and plot.
* Bookended by a collection of documentary-style testimonials about the strange events surrounding the film’s history (as well as the topic of the occult in general), the movie’s plot revolves around a brother (Rowan Smyth) and sister (Nicole Tompkins) traveling into the woods and trying to dig their way to Hell in order to save the soul of their recently-euthanized dog.
* As the story goes, people who see Antrum die shortly afterward. The most notable instance happened in 1988 in Budapest when it was being screened for the first time. The small theater the film was being shown at burned down, killing the 56 people inside.
- But, the most astonishing part about all this was the fact that the reel of the film was not damaged at all.
- During the documentary portion of Antrum: The Deadliest Film on Earth, it was allegedly confirmed that the fire itself didn't come from the projectionist's booth, as similar fires tend to. Instead, several fires broke out from within the audience itself. The prelude to the film also details three additional deaths and injuries putting Antrum at fault.
* Even the trailer comes with a warning. It tells viewers: "The following preview contains images which are rumoured to be 'haunted' or 'cursed.'
"It is suggested that you do not watch this material alone or at the very least inform someone that you have watched it."
* The film was actually released at horror festivals in 2018 but has only recently started to generate serious hype.
- Created by filmmakers David Amico and Michael Laicini, it warns viewers they will be cursed by the devil as they follow the horrifying tale.
* The film starts in classic mockumentary fashion, revealing all the terrible things that have happened since it was made in the 1970s and warning audiences they are at risk if they keep watching.
- UK horror fans may have a little wait before they risk demonic dalliances, however.
* The film is currently available to view on Amazon Prime – but only in the US.
* A riot erupted in a theater in San Francisco where Antrum was screened; in the ensuing chaos, the only physical print went missing.
* Before the movie theater tragedy took place, this film was sent to several film festivals in 1983.
But after receiving Antrum, festival programmers started dying mysteriously. Of course, there is no explanation for their death but many believe it to be the work of the devil himself.
* As the film gained popularity, in 1993 a theater decided they would screen the film but, as the film progressed people started growing anxious.
- Many tried exiting the movie theater but, they discovered all the doors were locked and there was no escape. And, this ultimately led to a stampede which resulted in the deaths of several people.
Now, it's up to you to decide. Will you watch the film or skip it?
