Do you know why your car does not start some times when you key into ignition? Find out why

Every memorable journey you have experienced in your life begins with the successful operation of the starter in your vehicle. The starter on today's cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles is located at the rear of the engine, where a gear on the starter is aligned with the steering wheel of the vehicle to start the ignition process.

Once the engine turns, fuel is introduced into the combustion chamber and ignited with the ignition system activated. When this process works properly, your engine comes alive. However, when the starter starts to wear or break, it will affect your ability to drive the car.

Consider the following 6 indications of car start problems:

1.
The engine does not turn and the vehicle does not start

The most common indicator of a problem with your starter is when you turn the key and nothing happens. You may not hear any sound from the engine or loud noise. This is usually caused by the starting solenoid or the engine that has been burned or is experiencing an electrical problem. However, this problem can also be caused by a discharged battery. If this happens, you should contact a mechanic to inspect the starter motor, ignition system and other electrical components, as it can be a sign of multiple problems.

2.
The starter motor is activated but does not rotate the motor.

There are times when you turn the ignition switch and hear how the starter is activated, but you will not hear the engine start. Problems with the starter motor are sometimes mechanical in nature. In this case, the problem may be due to the gears connected to the steering wheel. Either the gear has been disassembled or moved against the steering wheel. In any case, the engine will not turn and will require a certified mechanic to replace the starter motor.

3.
Sporadic initial problems

Loose or dirty wiring inside the ignition system can cause the car to start or not start unevenly, and can be difficult to repair. It could also be caused by a damaged or defective electrical component. Even if start-up problems only occur occasionally, you should consult your car specialist for thorough inspection.

4.
Interior lights dim when starting the car.

A short circuit in the starter wiring can cause the dashboard lights to dim each time you start the car. In this case, the starter draws the additional current from the other systems of the vehicle. If a chugging accompanies the dimming lamps, the bearings inside the starter motor may be failing. In any case, have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.

5.
Smell or obvious smoke when starting the engine.

The starter motor is a mechanical system that works with electricity. Sometimes, the starter motor will overheat because the starter continues to be energized or the starter motor will not shut off after the car's engine has been started. If this happens, you will most likely see or smell the smoke coming from under the engine. This problem can be caused by a short circuit, a blown fuse or a problem with the ignition switch. In any case, it is important to contact a certified mechanic as soon as you notice this problem.

POINTS TO NOTE
Its advisable to continually check the car starter incase there is any form of malfunctions. If noticed, consult a qualified mechanic for mechanical assistance.
